Q. Do I have to sign up on your site to search for a vacation rental property?
A. No, you can search without signing up, although signing-up allows you to save searches and properties. When you inquire or reserve a property an account is created for you using your email address as a login. Once you have an account you'll get the following FREE:
  • An inquiry management system that tracks and organizes your inquiries - no more messy email chains to deal with!
  • You can search for vacation rental properties and save those as your "Favorites" for later reference.
  • You can write your own property reviews if you've rented a property via myBlueChipRentals.com
  • You'll receive (if you choose) periodic special offers on rental properties
Q. How do I contact the vacation property owner?
A. All properties on myBlueChipRentals.com will have the telephone number and email for the owner (or the agency managing the property for the owner). You may also contact the lister though our contact form which will create an account for you and save the inquiry, and any responses, for later reference. Contact them however you're most comfortable, and you'll get a response from a person who is knowledgeable about the rental that you're interested in. Also, after reading all you can about the property online you may ask any questions you have via the FAQ section in the listing. Check out the FAQ first as any answers to previous questions will be saved here.

Q. I've never done this before. What happens next if I want to make a reservation?
A. Owners and vacation rental agencies have their own procedures for handling a property, but typically this is what happens after you've communicated by phone/email or fax:
The owner/agency will email or mail you a Rental Agreement that you need to read thoroughly, sign, and return it with your deposit (some owners/agencies take deposits by credit card online or you mail them a check). Prior to sending any money to an owner/agency or providing a credit card number, always request and receive a completed rental agreement/contract. Don't rent without a formal signed agreement which is a legally binding document. Make sure that it specifies the dates you will be staying in the property, the cost of the rental, any deposits, taxes, cleaning fees, and the cancellation and refund policies. Also note that some owners now automate the whole process online, and when you acknowledge that you've read and agree to terms - and you hit the "submit" button, that's the same as a signed agreement.

Q. How much deposit will I need to put down?
A. Usually the deposit is 10-50% of your total rental plus a refundable security deposit -- with full payment typically due several weeks before your arrival. All specifics related to your security deposit: maintenance and damages, additional fees for telephone charges, etc. should be detailed in the rental agreement.

Q. Can I cancel my reservation and get a refund?
A. Virtually all rental agreements specify a cancellation policy - and any refund owed (and timeframe). Sometimes, especially during peak travel periods, your complete deposit may be non-refundable. Also, cancellations because of inclement weather are usually not permitted. So be sure to read the entire rental agreement carefully before signing. You can purchase travel insurance to protect your vacation investment if unforeseen circumstances require you to cancel your trip.

Q. What information should I receive prior to our arrival?
A. Typically, the owner/agency will mail or email you a packet of information including information about the area, directions to the property, their contact information (in the event of any issues you may have), your key or key instructions, parking information (and parking passes if included in your agreement). Sometimes the owner/agency will greet you at your property when you arrive with your key.

Q. What happens when we leave the rental?
A. Check-out policies should be part of the instructions you were provided. Since cleaning standards vary, you should be informed how much the owners expect you to clean up prior to departure. At minimum, you should leave the rental tidy. When you are ready to leave, the owner or their agency representative should check you out of the property, and assuming there is no damage, will refund your security deposit, either immediately or within a couple of weeks.

Q. What guarantees do I have that the vacation property is legitimate?
A. Besides talking to the owner/agency, it's a good idea to get a list of references (of people who have rented the property before) from the owner or agency. Check to see if there are any online reviews of the property on www.myBlueChipRentals.com (with the property listing). If at all possible, try to visit the property before you rent it (or have a friend near the area check it out for you).
